About Us

In browsing our site, you have shown a sign of personal strength. You have identified a resource to address what’s on your mind. You have taken a first step toward helping yourself.

The Stamford Counseling Center (SCC) is your resource for integrated mental and spiritual health treatment. You’ll find a friendly, helpful staff and a comforting, peaceful environment. We are an independent, 501(C)3 nonprofit mental health organization relying on a combination of fees, insurance, grants and donations to fund our services.

We provide counseling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families seeking professional help with emotional difficulties, family crises and relationship conflicts. In our therapy and counseling, we address both the emotional and spiritual dimensions of an individual’s well-being, always respectful of each person’s unique life experience and spiritual orientation. We’re a resource for the entire Fairfield County community, working independently and in collaboration with other agencies and organizations to reach everyone who can benefit from our services.

We’ve been around since 1970, and have a very unique history. We began as a pastoral counseling center working with churches and serving congregations, and have evolved to become an integrative therapeutic environment combining the best practices of several research-based therapy models, cognitive-behavioral, structural-strategic, solution focused and general systems, along with offering traditional and proven psychodynamic strategies.

While we are still unique in offering pastoral counseling that is open and affirming to those who seek it, we now offer a wide range of specialized, personalized services. We have state licensed therapists trained and experienced in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), the Gottman approach, Ego State Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), just to name a few. We have a fully furnished Play Therapy Room for working with children and several groups created for the older adult working through memory issues.

Our staff is our biggest strength. We represent different cultures, have different clinical backgrounds and gravitate toward different treatment models, but we all operate under a common, shared vision. That vision is to be recognized as the leading non-profit counseling center in Fairfield County for individuals and families at all socio-economic levels. Our high level of positive outcomes is driven by our integrative approach to therapy and the development of programs that directly meet the needs of the communities we serve.

In most cases, our fees are either covered by insurance or subsidized by outside financial support. We can bill directly to your insurance company, we work with them all, including State Insurance and Medicaid.

Most importantly for low-income families, we have a sliding fee scale supported by grants and donations. Our goal is to ensure your payments do not become part of the problem. We turn no one away.
