Karen Mazarin-Stanek is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an AAMFT approved supervisor who enjoys working with couples, individuals and families using an eclectic systemic approach. Karen is trained in transgenerational, structural, strategic and solution focused approaches to family therapy. She also uses Family Constellations in her work. Karen is also an EMDR trained therapist, and uses the technique to help clients who have experienced trauma in their lives. Karen also received Hypnotherapy certification. She uses hypnosis to help clients with sleep disorders, phobias, and weight loss.
Karen’s Master of Arts degree is from Fairfield University in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her undergraduate degree is in Human Services from the University of Connecticut. Her experience includes 10 years of working with trauma victims and survivors, facilitating peer support groups, working with parents and partners of survivors to overcome the effects of trauma on the individual and the family.
Karen has three grown children, a son and two stepdaughters, and lives in Stamford with her husband, Gary Stanek, LMFT. Karen and Gary enjoy doing co-therapy with couples. “It’s a gender balanced approach that highlights partners’ differences while at the same time honoring them. The listening and validating exercises that Gary and I teach get to the heart of what most partners want from each other.”
